Forgotten world
State Highway 43 between Taumarunui (northwest of Tongariro National Park) and Stratford (east of Mount Taranaki) is called ‚Forgotten World Highway‘. Highway is not necessarily a freeway, but this is at best a country road. It winds over 155 km through an area that really seems to be forgotten by the world.
In the Tangarakau Gorge about ten kilometers are even only gravel road. For the average of 150 vehicles a day, it is sufficient. And the low traffic allows us many stops to enjoy the landscape, which is like painted.
