Kurz bevor wir bei Uis die Fernstraße C35 erreichen, die hier nicht mehr asphaltiert ist, treffen wir auf ein pittoreskes Eselgespann. Gegen Mittag stoppt uns eine große Ziegenherde, sie überquert in einem langen Treck die C35.
From Uis to Henties Bay
Shortly before we reach the highway C35 near Uis, which here is not asphalted anymore, we meet a picturesque donkey-team. Around noon, a large herd of goats stops us, it crosses the C35 in a long trek.
In der Hitze des frühen Nachmittags durchqueren wir die Namib in Richtung Henties Bay. Die heiße Luft über der Wüste flirrt. Fahrzeuge, Gebäude, Büsche in einiger Entfernung scheinen im Wasser zu schwimmen. Aber Wasser gibt es hier nicht. Erst einige zehn Kilometer weiter erreichen wir das Wasser des Südatlantik. Die Küstenstraße ist glatter als Asphalt. Bei Nässe möchten wir sie nicht befahren, denn sie besteht aus Salz.
In the heat of the early afternoon we cross the Namib towards Henties Bay. The hot air over the desert is shimmering. Vehicles, buildings, bushes at some distance seem to float in the water. But there is no water here. Only tens of kilometers further we reach the waters of the South Atlantic. The coastal road is smoother than asphalt. When wet, we do not want to drive on it because it is made of salt.
