Vulcano

english:

One of the Saronic Islands (southeast of Corinth) is a peninsula: Méthana is connected by a narrow land bridge to the mainland. The name of the peninsula is probably determined by the sources of sulfur and carbonic acid on the edge of the capital of the same name. There is a spa with a so-called stink lake. Also the harbor in the village smells of rotten eggs, as we know from other volcanic regions (e.g., Iceland, New Zealand).

The peninsula consists of over 25 volcanoes, most extinct and eroded. One, however, is still recognizable in the roughness of its solidified lava some 2,000 years after its last outbreak. A (climbing)hiking trail leads from a hiking car park into the crater. On the way, the native alpine violets bloom. Also Mrs Roundgetter, who currently „has knee“ and is not very well on foot, can not miss this spectacular hike and the view of the islands and the sea.
