Wetter in Ston

Also frühstücken wir erst mal.

Weather at Ston

Near the pier of the ferry to the island of Mljet we have found a place for the night. Camping Prapratno has been in hibernation for weeks. But the parking lot next to it, at the small sandy beach, is under pretty pine trees. Unfortunately, wind and waves have piled up flotsam. As the wind increases, we turn the motorhome so that it hits the stern. But it keeps getting stronger. We have some experience with storms, e.g. on Prince Edward Island in Canada and a blizzard on Lofoten in Norway. But we have never experienced something like that. In spurts, gale gusts build up and extremely drag on the camper. The bay and its hinterland seem like a funnel in a wind tunnel. We have to worry about flotsam being thrown against the vehicle and damaging it. We do not want to wait for that and disappear very quickly. On the outskirts of Mali Ston we have seen a natural place, there we go. There is no idyll here, but we are safe from the storm.

In the morning, when we are about to leave for Ston, a thunderstorm starts and makes our camper a submarine again. So we have breakfast first. After that, the sky is blue! Now really good images of the defensive wall succeed, first at Mali Ston, then in the larger Veliki Ston (or just Ston). We are amazed at how many tourists Ston and its fortress attract in late fall. Well, the place is really worth seeing.
