Von Haines haben wir mit einer Fähre des ‚Alaska Marine Highway System’ über den Lynn Canal nach Skagway übergesetzt. In dem eigentlich recht verschlafenen Ort liegen Kreuzfahrtschiffe, entsprechend ist der Trubel. Wir fahren zum White Pass hinauf und lassen dort Alaska endgültig hinter uns, das wir fast sechs Wochen lang bereist haben.
Hier oben in den etwa 15 km zwischen der US-Grenze (Alaska) und der kanadischen Grenzstation in British Columbia liegt eine atemberaubende, bizarre und wildromantische Felsenlandschaft. Eingerahmt von hohen Bergmassiven, teils mit Gletschern, liegen die Seen Summit Lake und Bernard Lake. Spektakulär quert der Summit Creek den South Klondike Highway.
From Haines, we took a ferry of the Alaska Marine Highway System across Lynn Canal to Skagway. There are cruise ships moored in this sleepy town, so it’s pretty busy. We drive up to White Pass and leave Alaska behind us for good, which we have been travelling through for almost six weeks.
Up here in the 15 kilometres or so between the US border (Alaska) and the Canadian border station in British Columbia lies a breathtaking, bizarre and wildly romantic rocky landscape. Framed by high mountain massifs, some with glaciers, lie the Summit Lake and Bernard Lake. Summit Creek crosses the South Klondike Highway in spectacular fashion.
