Die Schwarzmeerküste Rumäniens ist kurz und der größere Teil liegt im Biosphärenreservat Donaudelta. Viel Platz für Strand bleibt da nicht. Dennoch soll es Strände geben, die wollen wir gern sehen. Das gestaltet sich schwierig. Die gesamte Küste nördlich von Constanţa (Konstanza), entlang der Landbrücke von Mamaia, ist mit Hotels, Apartmenthäusern und Restaurants zugebaut. Der Strand ist zugänglich, aber eben mit Hochhausfronten im Rücken. Noch weiter nördlich schließt sich ein riesiger, hässlicher Petrochemie-Komplex an, der auch noch die Luft mit Benzingeruch schwängert. Südlich der Großstadt, an der Landbrücke von Eforie Nord bis Eforie Sud wäre der Zugang zum Strand im Prinzip an ein paar Stellen möglich (zwischen Hotels, Apartmenthäusern und Restaurants), aber für Herbst und Winter ist er gerade auf voller Länge mit einem Bauzaun abgesperrt. Weiter südlich versuchen wir ein paar mal unser Glück, vergeblich. Die Bautätigkeit an der Küste ist allerdings enorm, so wird der wenige potentielle Strand noch weiter minimiert. Die Strände ganz im Süden, bis zur Grenze von Bulgarien, gefallen uns nicht: In 2 Mai liegt er direkt neben einer großen Werft, Vama Veche ist uns insgesamt zu schmuddelig. Bei Mangalia Saturn ist ein gutes Stück Sandstrand zugänglich. Allerdings ist auch hier schon Herbst/Winter vorbereitet. Die Sonnenschirme sind abgebaut, der Sand ist zu einem Wall zusammen geschoben.
Where is the beach? Romania’s Black Sea coast is short and the larger part lies in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. There is not much room for a beach. Nevertheless, there are supposed to be beaches that we would like to see. That turns out to be difficult. The entire coast north of Constanţa, along the land bridge from Mamaia, is covered with hotels, apartment buildings and restaurants. The beach is accessible, but with high-rise buildings behind it. Even further north, there is a huge, ugly petrochemical complex, which also fills the air with the smell of petrol. South of the city, on the land bridge from Eforie Nord to Eforie Sud, access to the beach would in principle be possible in a few places (between hotels, apartment buildings and restaurants), but for autumn and winter it is currently closed off along its full length with a construction fence. Further south we try our luck a few times, in vain. However, the construction activity on the coast is enormous, so the few potential beaches are minimised even further. We don’t like the beaches in the very south, up to the border of Bulgaria: In 2 Mai it is right next to a large shipyard, Vama Veche is altogether too scruffy for us. At Mangalia Saturn, a good piece of sandy beach is accessible. However, autumn/winter is already prepared here too. The sunshades have been taken down, the sand has been pushed together to form a wall.

Später, auf der Suche nach dem Leuchtturm am Cap Tuzla entdecken wir bei Costineşti doch noch einen schmalen Strand, der aber nicht leicht zu finden ist.
