In Pelly Crossing haben wir auf dem Gemeinde-Campingplatz übernachtet. Der ist wie die staatlichen Campgrounds ausgestattet, aber gebührenfrei. Wir überqueren den Pelly River und fahren weiter auf dem Klondike Highway (Hwy 2) nach Norden.
In Stewart Crossing, nach Überquerung des Stewart River biegen wir nach Osten ab. Aber die Fahrt auf dem Silver Trail (Hwy 11) mit Ziel Mayo und Keno City brechen wir bald ab und kehren zurück zum Klondike Highway. Die Straße entlang des Stewart River ist kurvig und relativ schmal, hinzu kam starker Regen. Der lässt auf der Weiterfahrt nach Nordwesten nach.
40 km vor Dawson City zweigt nach Norden der Dempster Highway (Hwy 5) ab. Die ersten Kilometer der Schotterstraße sind frisch geglättet, aber schon bald setzen die obligatorischen Schlaglöcher ein. Nach dem Regen stehen die voll Wasser und sind oft schwierig einzuschätzen. Aber die Szenerie links und rechts der Straße entschädigt dafür. Wir sind definitiv im ‚Indian Summer‘ angekommen.
To the Tombstone Territorial Park
At Pelly Crossing we stayed overnight at the community campsite. It is equipped like the state campgrounds, but free of charge. We cross the Pelly River and continue on the Klondike Highway (Hwy 2) to the north.
In Stewart Crossing, after crossing the Stewart River, we turn east. But soon we break off the ride on the Silver Trail (Hwy 11) with destinations Mayo and Keno City and return to the Klondike Highway. The road along the Stewart River is curvy and relatively narrow, along came heavy rain. The rain ceases on the way to the north-west.
40 km before Dawson City the Dempster Highway (Hwy 5) branches off to the north. The first kilometers of the gravel road are freshly smoothed, but the obligatory potholes soon begin. After the rain they are full of water and often difficult to estimate. But the scenery on the left and right of the street compensates for this. We have definitely arrived in the ‚Indian Summer‘.
Gegen Abend erreichen wir den staatlichen Tombstone Mountain Campground im Tombstone Territorial Park und erwischen einen der letzten noch nicht belegten Stellplätze.
In the evening we reach the public Tombstone Mountain Campground in the Tombstone Territorial Park and catch one of the last unoccupied pitches.
