Etwa 15 km nordwestlich von Harstad liegt in außerordentlich schöner Lage direkt am Meer der Rastplatz Nupen. Die Sicht nach Norden über das Meer ist offen. Etwas nordöstlich ragt ein mächtiger, schneebedeckter Felsenberg ins Bild. Nordwestlich liegt als weißer, gezackter Streifen die dick mit Schnee eingedeckte Insel Andøya. Von einem norwegischen Fotografen erfahren wir später, dass eine Mehrheit der Norweger in einer Befragung diesen Ort als den romantischten des Landes benannt hat.
Wir haben ihn für die Übernachtung in der Vollmondnacht gefunden. Der Mond lässt den Schnee auf dem Felsenberg und auf Andøya in der Dunkelheit leuchten. Und dann wird Frau Rumkommer ganz unruhig. Sie verfolgt seit Wochen die Wetter– und die Polarlichtvorhersage für Nordnorwegen. Tatsächlich ist hier zum Vollmond der Himmel weitgehend wolkenfrei und die Nordlicht-Prognose so gut wie seit Wochen nicht. Und was wir kaum zu hoffen gewagt haben, geschieht: Polarlicht vor uns, links, rechts, dann über uns, nicht nur statisch, nein, zeitweise tanzt es wirklich.
In the right place at the right time About 15 km north-west of Harstad lies in exceptionally beautiful location directly at the sea the rest area Nupen. The view north over the sea is open. A mighty, snow-capped rocky mountain rises slightly to the north-east. The Andøya Island, thickly covered with snow, lies as a white, jagged strip to the north-west. From a Norwegian photographer we learn later that a majority of the Norwegians in a survey named this place as the most romantic of the country. We found it as the overnight-stay in the full moon night. The moon makes the snow shine on the rocky mountain and on Andøya in the dark. And then Mrs. Roundgetter gets quite restless. She has been tracking the weather and polar light prediction for Northern Norway for weeks. In fact, here a full moon the sky is largely cloud-free and the northern light forecast is as good as never in weeks. And what we have hardly dared to hope is happening: Polar light before us, left, right, then over us, not just static, no, in times it really dances.
