Gleich nördlich von Klaksvík liegt die höchste Insel der Färöer, Kunoy. Auf dem Weg dort hin sehen wir eine der landestypischen Bootshäuser-Reihen. Ihr schräg gegenüber liegt der kleine Ort Haraldssund an den Berg geschmiegt, jenseits des Damms, der auf die Insel führt.
Kunoy on Kunoy
Just north of Klaksvík there lies the highest island of the Foroes, Kunoy. On the way over there we see one of the boathouse rows typical for the country. Across the small place Haraldssund lies nestled to the mountain, beyond the dam which leads on the island.
Auf den Damm folgt ein einspuriger Tunnel quer durch die Insel, gut drei Kilometer lang. Auf der Fahrbahnseite ohne Vorrang sind alle paar hundert Meter Ausweichbuchten in den Fels gehauen. Die Straße endet in dem malerischen kleinen Ort Kunoy. Der Bootsanleger unterhalb des Ortes scheint vernachlässigt zu sein. Vermutlich hat er durch den Tunnel an Bedeutung verloren.
A single-track tunnel follows the dam straight through the island, a good three kilometres long. On the roadway side without priority every few hundred metres turnout bays are carved into the rock. The road ends in the picturesque small place Kunoy. The pier below the place seems to be neglected. Presumably it has become less important because of the tunnel.
Am Ortsrand ist Gras gemäht und zu Ballen gerollt, die ohne Traktor handhabbar sind. Stare haben ihre Freude an der gemähten Wiese. Zwischen ihren Mahlzeiten nehmen sie ein Bad im Wasserfall über dem Ort.
At the place’s edge grass is mowed and rolled to bale which are manageable without tractor. Starlings take their pleasure in the mowed meadow. Between their meals they take a bath in the waterfall above the place.
