People who also get around. We met them on the way and we like them:

Ana

The doctor in the ambulance who admitted Krim to the hospital in La Rioja, Argentina, quickly realised that communication with us could be difficult. That’s why he immediately asked a young woman he knew, who was waiting for her father in the waiting room, to translate. Ana did not hesitate for a second and offered her help. She speaks good English, but she didn’t just translate. With her youthful freshness and warmth, good sense of what is important and a very adult sense of responsibility, she made the necessary examinations very pleasant. The next day she visited the freshly operated Krim. Later, when we wanted to express our thanks to the hospital staff, she procured the typical gift of the country. And we made a dear friend. Ana is burning to see Europe. We are already looking forward to having her visit us in Hamburg then.

english:

At the Phare de la Coubre lighthouse, far to the north of the Gironde estuary, we met the couple from Switzerland with their van camper for the first time. Unlike us, Monika and Hermann not only photographed it but also went up the particularly high tower. Like us, they had just come from Portugal and northern Spain. They even went to some of the same places a few days before or after us. And then we met again a little later at the –> Chassiron lighthouse on the Île d’Oléron. They even gladly accepted a few tips from us for particularly spectacular destinations in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Obviously, they also like to travel a lot with their motorhome in Europe; they only postponed Canada because of the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to further stimulating exchanges with them.

MuT Reisen.

english:

In the –> Žemaitijos National Park in northwest Lithuania we drove to a parking lot at Lake Plateliu. We had made ourselves comfortable there when a dark green van, an older Sprinter model, drove onto the place. The camper with German registration is a DUO from CS-Reisemobile, as it quickly turned out. The two travelers, Maria and Thomas, have come around pretty much. For a trip through Russia and as far as Mongolia and back, they had looked for a well-preserved, used camper and found their “tiny green house”. Because of the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 pandemic, the border of Russia was closed and the expensive travel preparations were no longer worth anything. But instead of getting annoyed about it, the two traveled through Germany, Poland and the Baltic states to Scandinavia. You can follow them on their blog: Maria und Thomas auf Reisen or MuT Reisen, respectively.

english:

Around the same time as we from Hamburg, Heike and Andreas started from Bad Driburg to the Nordic winter. On the way, they commented on blog posts from us a few times and thus we discovered their blog ‘GrilleOnTour’. In deep snow near Kiruna, in Swedish Lapland, we met more or less by chance at a rest area. The couple prefer to travel to Nordic countries. Their green-gray semi-integrated motorhome based on an Iveco with all-wheel drive is obviously well equipped for this.

Rachel and Murphy

english:

The rest area –> at Austnesfjord on Lofoten, northern Norway, was busy in the late evening of the last day of February. One car after the other and several buses came onto the square. The occupants got out and climbed through the deep snow to the viewpoint to see the northern lights. Then they drove away, around midnight there was silence. The next morning, besides of us there was another camper and a car left over. Rachel and Murphy had stayed in the rental car in severe frost. When we left we got in contact. The couple lives in San Francisco, California, USA, and visited Lofoten to see and photograph the great landscapes in the snow. And the Northern Lights, with great success, as we were able to see later. As a photographer, Murphy specializes in extreme landscapes and, like us, has gotten around. His pictures, seen on Flickr, are hard to beat in terms of magnificence and drama. We are deeply impressed.

Shalini and Sidney

english:

In the –> Stora Sjöfallets National Park in Laponia in Swedish Lapland, we turned off the main road to a parking lot that is too steep for ordinary campers. With four-wheel drive and gear reduction, we came down and later up again. The most beautiful spot of the place, at the lake, two women with a white Land Rover had secured for themselves: Shalini and Sidney. The two Swedes were traveling their homeland. These gorgeous women, bursting with zest for life and energy, have greeted us as friendly and heartly as we seldom experience, especially from strangers. Both grown up with Kenyan-European parents in Kenya, they have been living in Sweden for many years. Shalini works as a professional photographer and both travel through different countries with their two dogs as often and as long as they can at any one time. So we immediately had some topics of conversation that connect us. On Facebook you can follow them at: YAS Indigenious Native Expeditions. Photographic works by Shalini can be seen under Zhabundu Photography at Saatchi Gallery London.

Katie and Mark

english:

Near Norrfällsviken on the High Coast (Höga Kusten) of Sweden we parked our camper and walked to the –> beach Storsand. Meanwhile, another van-camper, also a sprinter, drove into the parking lot. The sporty Lady driver we met on the beach, she went brisk pace a larger round than us. Back at the parking lot, we realized that the other camper, with Dutch car plate, was also a model of CS motorhomes. The accompanying man had just arrived by bicycle and was looking for his wife. We got into a talk about our campers. Katie and Mark are Canadians from Calgary, living in Amsterdam. They started their one-year break from work with a tour through Norway, we met them on the journey. Immediately, we had a stimulating conversation about mobile homes in Europe and Canada in general, an exchange of experiences of our specimens and about travel around the world.

Jeanette and Terry

english:

In the south of Alberta we met Jeanette and Terry. When they heard about our planned additional itinerary through the west and north of Canada, they spontaneously invited us to their place at Grande Prairie in the north of the province. There in the area we have experienced together with them an –> unforgettable Jamboree. Terry has been around Canada in his professional life, even in extreme locations in the Arctic. Together, the two travel with their pickup camper through Canada and the United States. Similar to us, they prefer pitches in nature and rarely use campsites.

Leah

english:

In Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories in northern Canada, we spent the night with our camper in the empty parking lot of the Skiclub. In mid-August we did not expect a lot of traffic at this place. But during our breakfast preparation it got busy. Adults brought their children (to a summer camp, as we later learned). All eyes were on the strange, foreign motorhome. Only a young woman dared to address us: Leah from the Stuttgart area (without Swabian accent! Impossible usually), Au pair in –> Yellowknife. She was exchange student in New Zealand and has traveled with her parents all over the world and with a camper. So we immediately had a stimulating conversation about Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada and travel.

Beth, Sandy, Max and Gavin

At one of the beautiful lakes along the –> Stewart-Cassiar Highway in the north of British Columbia / Canada we have discovered an interesting camper van. Curious how this Canadian Mercedes Sprinter is set up we have stopped next to it. Beth, her husband Sandy and the sons Max and Gavin were also interested in our camper. And so it became a little festivity, as we showed each other the equipment and features of our motor homes. The family from the Canadian Rockies in southern Alberta, equipped with bicycles (and being Canadians of course with fishing tackles) travels in Canada.

Carl

At Oak Bay near Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, we met a particularly joyous person. Carl played there on one of the –> artistically painted pianos in the park. He is a retired Holistic Pediatrician and US citizen who enjoys living in Canada. He calls himself a „writer, author, pianist, motivational speaker, lover of humanity & planet Earth“. And that’s how we perceived him. He teaches parenting seminars, is a nutrition consultant and health coach. For that he travels the world.

Norbert

In the Icelandic highlands, we met several times with Norbert Pollak from Vienna: at the –> volcano Askja, at Kverkfjöll and some other remote places. It impressed us how he had swum with a few other courageous people in the turquoise milky water of the crater Viti (Hell). Like us, he also traveled through Iceland for three months.

Here we met Danielle from Marburg (Germany) and Nadine from –> Barcelona. The ends of the world, however, the two architects sparkling with joie de vivre don’t care about. They even want to get all around the world!

english:

On a camper pitch in Schwetzingen near Heidelberg, which we used for a rest on the return journey from –> Eastern Spain / Catalonia, another Mercedes Sprinter four-wheel drive motorhome went next to us: same vehicle, different mobile homes.
