Schlösser sind Monumente vergangener Feudalherrschaften und/oder zweifelhaften Reichtums. Die meisten sind Zeugnisse vordemokratischer Zeiten. Sie sind aber auch Denkmäler von Kultur und Künsten der jeweiligen Epochen. Das macht sie zu prominenten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Viele Schlösser sind heute öffentlich zugängliche Parkanlagen, Museen oder werden für öffentliche Institutionen wie Bildungseinrichtungen genutzt.
Eine der größten und beeindruckendsten Schlossanlagen der Welt ist das Palastmuseum, die ehemals Verbotene Stadt in der Hauptstadt Chinas, Beijing.

- die Schlösser Hohenzollern und Lichtenstein auf der Schwäbischen Alb,
- Schloss Burgk im Naturpark Thüringer Schiefergebirge / Obere Saale,
- das Dornröschenschloss Sababurg im Reinhardswald,
- eins der schönsten Schlösser Thüringens, Schloss Sondershausen.
