Vulkan mit Korallen
Mesa Roldán bei Carboneras ist ein erloschener Vulkankegel. Unter der Meeresoberfläche wurde er von Korallen besiedelt. Seit dem Absinken des Meeresspiegels ragt er als Tafelberg aus der Umgebung heraus. Die Kalkablagerungen des Korallenriffs bilden heute die Oberfläche des Bergs. Die frühere Straße hinauf ist dem Verfall überlassen. Eine neue, gut asphaltierte führt heute steil hinauf in die Caldera. Auf seinem Gipfel befinden sich die Überreste eines Wachturms aus dem 15. Jahrhundert und ein Leuchtturm. Mesa Roldán war auch in der Erfolgsserie „Game of Thrones“ zu sehen.
Volcano with coral
Mesa Roldán near Carboneras is an extinct volcanic cone. It was colonised by coral beneath the sea surface. Since the sea level dropped, it has risen up from the surrounding area as a table mountain. The limestone deposits of the coral reef now form the surface of the mountain. The old road up the mountain has been left to decay. A new, well-paved road now leads steeply up into the caldera. At its summit are the remains of a 15th-century watchtower and a lighthouse. Mesa Roldán was also featured in the hit series ‘Game of Thrones’.
