Die Bäume beim schwarz-weiß geringelten Leuchtturm im äußersten Norden der Île d’Oléron „wissen“, woher hier der Wind weht. Der Turm steht oberhalb einer Steilküste. Eine Treppe führt hinab auf den felsigen Meeresgrund, der bei Ebbe mehr oder weniger trocken fällt. Verschiedene Zonen sind erkennbar, vom fast vegetationslosen Geröll über Algenfelder, Gezeitentümpel und größere Wasserflächen bis zur Felskante mit Brandung und dem Meer dahinter. In diesem Gelände umher gehen zu können, ist so faszinierend, wie die Landschaft selbst mit Algen, Schnecken und Seepocken darin.
The trees at the black and white ringed lighthouse in the far north of the Île d’Oléron „know“ which way the wind blows here. The tower stands above a cliff. A staircase leads down to the rocky seabed, which more or less dries out at low tide. Different zones are recognisable, from almost vegetation-free scree to fields of seaweed, tide pools and larger bodies of water to the cliff edge with surf and the sea beyond. Being able to walk around in this terrain is as fascinating as the landscape itself with algae, snails and barnacles in it.
