Im Süden des Großraums Los Angeles haben wir bei Irvine im bergigen Hinterland der Pazifikküste einen ruhigen Übernachtungsplatz. Zum Frühstück fahren wir hinab an die Küste. Bevor wir einen schönen Platz gefunden haben, entdecken wir bei Huntington Beach das Vogelschutzgebiet Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. Jetzt muss das Frühstück warten. Beim Parkplatz sind nur wenige Vögel zu sehen, doch dann kommt ein Geschwader Pelikane geflogen. Sie locken uns weiter in das weitläufige Gebiet hinein. Dort schwirren Küstenseeschwalben umher, Enten und andere Vögel sind selbstverständlich auch da.
Birds before breakfast
In the south of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, we have a quiet place to spend the night near Irvine in the mountainous hinterland of the Pacific coast. For breakfast we drive down to the coast. Before we have found a nice spot, we discover the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve bird sanctuary near Huntington Beach. Now breakfast will have to wait. There are only a few birds to be seen at the car park, but then a flock of pelicans flies in. They lure us further into the extensive area. Terns buzz around, ducks and other birds are of course also there.
