Entlang der Pazifikküste im Norden von Chile, bis nach Peru hinein, ersteckt sich die Atacama-Wüste. Sie ist die trockenste der Welt außerhalb der Polargebiete. In dieser Region haben wir einige der außergewöhnlichsten, bizarrsten aber auch schönsten Landschaften gesehen und faszinierende Naturphänomene beobachtet, u.A.: blühendene Kakteen, bunte Berge, Salzseen, Salzlagunen, Salzflüsse und weitere Salz- sowie Mondlandschaften, kochende Quellen und Geysire sowie die Hochebenen des Altiplano. Hinzu kommen Flamingos, eine Herde wilder Esel sowie Lama-, Alpaca- und Vicuña-Herden.
The Atacama Desert stretches along the Pacific coast in the north of Chile and into Peru. It is the driest in the world outside the polar regions. In this area, we have seen some of the most extraordinary, bizarre but also beautiful landscapes and observed fascinating natural phenomena, including: flowering cacti, colourful mountains, salt lakes, salt lagoons, salt rivers and other salt and lunar landscapes, boiling springs and geysers as well as the high plateaus of the Altiplano. There are also flamingos, a herd of wild donkeys and herds of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.
