Selten haben wir den Kontrast von pechschwarzem Strand und frischem Schnee so leuchtend erlebt, wie auf der Halbinsel Dyrhólaey (‚Türlochinsel‘, westlich von Vík und oberhalb Reynisfjara). Dazu kommen noch die weißen Schaumkronen des aufgepeitschten Nordatlantik, dessen Brandung in den Schnee am Strand Muster malt. Vom Leuchtturm aus blicken wir nach Osten auf die Felsnadeln Reynisdrangar, nach Westen reicht die Sicht bis zu den Westmännerinseln.
Rarely have we experienced the contrast of pitch-black beach and fresh snow as brightly as on the peninsula Dyrhólaey (‚Door Hole Island‘, west of Vík and above Reynisfjara). In addition, there are the white crestwaves of the whipped North Atlantic, of which the surf paints patterns into the snow on the beach. From the lighthouse we look to the east on the sea stacks of Reynisdrangar, to the west the view extends to the Westman Islands.
