Fast 300 km nördlich des Polarkreises erfreuen wir uns des Sommers in Grönland, zwar nicht sommerlich gekleidet aber frühlingshaft. Der Sonnenbrand, den sich der Herumkommer auf der Schiffsreise zugezogen hat, ist abgeklungen. Wir sitzen mit einem frisch gezapften grönländischen Bier auf der Terrasse des Hotel Icefjord in Ilulissat und genießen den atemberaubenden Blick über die Diskobucht vor unseren Füßen.
Almost 300 km north of the polar circle we enjoy the summer in Greenland, though not in summer cloths but dressed springlike. The sun burn the Herumkommer acquired on the cruise, has faded. We sit with a freshly drawn greenlandic beer on the terrace of the Hotel Icefjord in Ilulissat and savour the breathtaking view over the Disko Bay beneath our feet.
Beim Hotel ist nicht nur die Lage spektakulär. An der Rezeption wurde uns in wenigen Minuten die Buchung für eine Bootsfahrt zum Eisfjord beschafft, obwohl mehrere Veranstalter ausgebucht waren. Das Restaurant ist ungewöhnlich gut organisiert, die Küche produziert exquisite Fischgerichte, Moschusochsen-Steak und andere Leckereien, alles exzellent zubereitet.
Die Aussicht ist mindestens alle paar Stunden verändert, denn das Mobiliar Eisberge wird von Wind und Gezeiten beständig neu „arrangiert“. Ilulissat heißt sehr zutreffend: „Eisberge“. Die drittgrößte Stadt Grönlands (4500 Einwohner) und Tourismus-Hochburg des Landes ist eine quirlige Mischung aus Tradition und Moderne. Und mitten im Ort leuchtet an vielen Stellen Wollgras in voller Blüte.
As for the hotel, not only the location is spectecular. At the reception we got a booking for a boat trip to the icefjord within minutes, although several hosts were fully booked. The restaurant is organized unusually good, the kitchen produces exqisite fish dishes, muskox steak and other goodies, all excellently prepared.
The view is modified at least every few hours, because the furniture icebergs gets constantly “rearranged“ by wind and tides. Ilulissat means appropriately: “Icebergs“. The third largest town of Greenland (4500 inhabitants) and important centre for tourism of the country is a lively blend of tradition and modernism. And in the midst of town at many places cotton grass gleams in full bloom.
