In einem Espenwald etwa 50 km südlich von Carmacks, auf dem Yukon Government Campground ‘Twin Lakes‘, verbringen wir die Nacht. Die Zwillingsseen liegen links und rechts des Highway. An einem der beiden liegt der großzügig angelegte Campground. Mehr als 50 solcher öffentlichen Campingplätze unterhält Yukon an landschaftlich besonders reizvollen Stellen.
An der Einfahrt oder an zentraler Stelle liegen kleine Registrierungsformulare aus Kunststoff aus. So ein Formular füllt man selbst aus mit Ankunftsdatum, Kfz-Kennzeichen, Anzahl Übernachtungen und Nummer des Stell- / Zeltplatzes. Eine Hälfte des Formulars klemmt man in eine Klammer neben dem Stellplatz. In die andere Hälfte, die einen verschließbaren Beutel enthält, legt man 12 kanadische Dollars und wirft sie in den Schlitz einer Stahlschachtel neben der Formularauslage.
Auf ausliegenden Handzetteln kündigt die Regierung des Yukon die erstmalige Verlängerung der Campingsaison an. Dieser und weitere elf Campgrounds schließen nicht schon am 31. August (wie die anderen rund 40) sondern sollen bis Mitte September betrieben werden.
Am Abend liegt eine besondere Stimmung über dem See.
In an aspen forest about 50 km south of Carmacks, at the Yukon Government Campground ‚Twin Lakes‘, we spend the night.
The Twin Lakes are to the left and right of the highway. At one of the two is the spacious campground. More than 50 of these public campsites, Yukon maintains at especially appealing spots.
At the entrance or at a central location there are small registration forms made of plastic. Such a form is filled out with the arrival date, license plate, number of nights and number of the pitch / tent pitch. One half of the form is clamped in a bracket next to the pitch. Into the other half, which contains a lockable bag, you place 12 Canadian dollars and insert them into the slot of a steel box next to the form display.
On handouts the Government of the Yukon is announcing the first ever extension of the campsite season. This and a further eleven campgrounds do not close on the 31st August (like the others around 40) but are to be operated by mid-September.
In the evening a special atmosphere lies above the lake.
