Gleich südwestlich von Korinth liegen die Ausgrabungsstätten des antiken Korinth. Hinter dem antiken Korinth ragt ein 575 m hoher Bergsattel auf. Darauf steht als ausgedehnte Burganlage Akrokorinthos, seit dem 4. Jahrhundert vor Christus. Von hier aus konnte der Isthmus (Landenge) von Korinth, die einzige Verbindung des Peloponnes mit dem Festland, kontrolliert werden. Direkt unterhalb vom Eingangstor zur Burg haben wir auf dem Parkplatz einen Stellplatz mit großartigem Blick über die nächtlichen Lichter der westlichen Vororte von Korinth (die Stadt selbst liegt hinter dem Burgberg). Und am nächsten Morgen sind wir fast die Ersten auf der Burg, bevor die Reisebusse eintreffen.
Just south-west of Corinth are the archaeological sites of ancient Corinth. Behind the ancient Corinth rises a 575 m high mountain saddle. On top of it stands Akrokorinthos as an extensive fortress, since the 4th century BC. From here, the isthmus (land neck) of Corinth, the only link between the Peloponnese and the mainland, could be controlled. Just below the entrance gate to the castle, we have a parking space with great views over the nocturnal lights of the western suburbs of Corinth (the city itself is behind the castle hill). And the next morning we are almost the first on the castle before the coaches arrive.
