Nördlich von Zadar führt eine große Brücke auf die Insel Pag, die sich weit nach Nordwesten erstreckt. Größer könnte der Kontrast zur üppigen Vegetation und den Wassermassen im Krka-Nationalpark kaum sein: Insbesondere der Süden der Insel ist noch kahler, als wir es nach der Beschreibung im Reiseführer geglaubt haben. Scharfkantiges Karstgestein lässt kaum Vegetation zu. Unweit der Brücke steht eine Burgruine, von der aus die Meerenge zwischen Festland und Insel gut zu kontrollieren war. Aus den Steinen der Umgebung gebaut, übersieht man sie leicht. Als wir die Ruine erreichen, strömen über zwanzig Katzen auf den Parkplatz.
