Schlechtes Wasser
Das Badwater Basin, südöstlich vom Zentrum des Death Valley National Park, ist meistens eine staubige Salzfläche. Es gibt hier eine Quelle, aber wegen des Salzes ist das Wasser unbrauchbar, also schlechtes Wasser (bad water).
Im Winter dieses Jahres ist hier ergiebiger Regen gefallen. Der hat sich in der abflusslosen Senke des Badwater Basin gesammelt. Daher ist hier jetzt ein Salzsee, der Wasserstand ist inzwischen schon gesunken. Hier am tiefsten Ort Nordamerikas, dem heißesten der Welt, wird es nicht lange dauern, bis dies wieder eine staubige Salzwüste sein wird. Aber jetzt leuchtet der See bildschön in grün, türkis und blau.
Bad water
The Badwater Basin, southeast of the centre of Death Valley National Park, is usually a dusty salt flat. There is a spring here, but because of the salt the water is unusable, i.e. bad water.
Heavy rain fell here in the winter of this year. This has collected in the Badwater Basin, which has no outlet. As a result, there is now a salt lake here and the water level has already dropped. Here in the lowest place in North America, the hottest in the world, it won’t be long before this is once again a dusty salt desert. But now the lake shines beautifully in green, turquoise and blue.
