Einige der letzten Urwälder Mittelfinnlands sind in dem kleinen Pyhä-Häkki-Nationalpark, etwa 20 km nordöstlich von Saarijärvi, unter Schutz gestellt. Rund die Hälfte des Parks ist Wald, die andere Hälfte Moor. Auf einer kleinen Rundwanderung sehen wir Jahrhundete alte Kiefern und Fichten. Besonders fasziniert uns die Möglichkeit, durch Moore zu gehen. Dafür sind Bohlenstege angelegt.
Nach zweieinhalb Wochen in Finnland, einschließlich Åland, ist dies das erste Mal, dass wir nennenswert Mücken wahrnehmen. Weil es vorher geregnet hat, tragen wir Regenjacken. Damit sind wir vor ihren Angriffen weitgehend geschützt.
Pyhä-Häkki National Park Some of the last virgin forests of Central Finland are protected in the small Pyhä-Häkki National Park, about 20 km north-east of Saarijärvi. About half of the park is wood, the other half moor. On a short circular walk we see ancient pines and spruce. We are particularly fascinated by the opportunity to go through moor. Planks are laid for this purpose. After two and a half weeks in Finland, including Åland, this is the first time that we have noticed mosquitos noteworthy. Because it has rained before, we wear cagoules. Thus, we are largely protected from their attacks.
