Von Akureyri zum Mývatn fahren wir mal wieder einen Umweg. Nach Norden führt die Schotterpiste F899 in ein unbewohntes Tal, die Straßenkarte weist lediglich einige aufgegebene Höfe aus. Das macht uns neugierig. Die Piste ist schmal und ziemlich holprig, aber offenbar erst kürzlich geräumt. Ein paar kleine Bäche sind zu queren, aber diese Furten sind zu klein, als dass sie in die Karte eingetragen wären. Während im Tal alles grünt und blüht, liegt auf den umliegenden Bergen noch viel Schnee.
Nobody lives here anymore
From Akureyri to Mývatn, again, we drive a detour. To the north the jeep track F899 leads into an uninhabited valley, the road map has marks only for several abandoned farms. That makes us courious. The track is narrow and rather bumpy but obviously cleared only recently. A few streams are to be crossed, but these fords are too small to be recorded in the map. While the valley flourishes on the surrounding mountains there is still a lot of snow.
