Auf dem Rückweg über Tok haben wir vom Tok Cutoff – Glenn Highway (Alaska Route 1) noch einige spektakuläre Blicke auf die Wrangell Mountains.
Back to the Alaska Highway
On the way back via Tok we have some spectacular views of the Wrangell Mountains from the Tok Cutoff – Glenn Highway (Alaska Route 1).
In Tok erreichen wir den Alaska Highway (Alaska Route 2), auf dem wir noch ungefähr 100 km nach Südosten fahren, in Richtung Yukon/Kanada. Der Highway verläuft hier parallel zum Tanana River und bildet die nordöstliche Grenze des Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge.
Auf der Ostseite des Highway, ein paar Meter erhöht, liegt wie eine große Aussichtsplattform ein großer Parkplatz, auf dem schon ein deutsches Wohnmobil mit Rheinland-Pfälzischer Zulassung steht. Bis spät abends genießen wir den herrlichen Panoramablick über den Tanana River, das Wildlife Refuge und die Mentasta Mountains im Hintergrund sowie einen sehr dramatischen Himmel.
At Tok we reach the Alaska Highway (Alaska Route 2), where we continue about 100 km to the southeast, towards Yukon / Canada. The highway runs parallel to the Tanana River and forms the north-eastern border of the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge.
On the east side of the highway, a few meters elevated, lies like a large viewing platform a large parking lot, on which already a German camper stands. Until late in the evening, we enjoy the magnificent panorama view over the Tanana River, the Wildlife Refuge and the Mentasta Mountains in the background as well as a very dramatic sky.
