Felsskulpturen, von der Erosion skurril gestaltet, bilden das Chiricahua National Monument, das Teil des Cornado National Forest ist, im Südosten von Arizona. Nachdem wir von Willcox durch eine vegetationsarme Ebene angereist sind, überrascht uns eine üppige Vegetation, insbesondere Bäume, die wir in solchen Mengen seit Tagen nicht gesehen haben. An der Straße in den Park hinein passieren wir gewaltige Wände aus Säulen, Felsnadeln und balancierten Felsbrocken. Kurze Wanderungen führen durch sehr abwechslungsreiche „Skulpturen-Parks“. Offenkundig hat es vor nicht langer Zeit im Park gebrannt, sodass Baumgerippe die ohnehin spektakuläre Szenerie zusätzlich „dekorieren“.
Rock sculptures, whimsically shaped by erosion, form the Chiricahua National Monument, which is part of the Cornado National Forest in south-east Arizona. After travelling from Willcox through a plain with little vegetation, we are surprised by the lush vegetation, especially trees, which we have not seen in such abundance for days. On the road into the park, we pass huge walls of pillars, rock needles and balanced boulders. Short hikes lead through very varied „sculpture parks“. Obviously there was a fire in the park not long ago, so that tree skeletons also „decorate“ the already spectacular scenery.
