Valle de la Luna
Etwa 12 km von San Pedro de Atacama liegt das „Tal des Mondes“, in das wir bei der Anreise schon einen Blick von oben werfen konnten. An vielen Stellen wird deutlich, dass es Teil der Salzkordillere ist (Cordillera de la Sal). Es ist völlig anders, als das „Mondtal“ in Patgonien (das wir zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr besucht haben), aber nicht weniger bizarr. Wie die Lagunas Miscanti y Miñiques ist Valle de la Luna eins von sieben Arealen in der Atacama-Wüste, die zusammen die Reserva Nacional Los Flamencos bilden.
Bei der Anfahrt zum Tal überqueren wir einen ausgetrockneten Salz-Bach. Eine Bischofit-Straße führt durch das Tal; auf der fahren wir mit unserem Womo bis zum Ende und zurück. Entlang der Straße sind ein paar Parkplätze aber wir können auch an vielen anderen Stellen anhalten und fotografieren. Von der Großen Düne, auf die ein Wanderweg führt, haben wir großartige Ausblicke auf einige Bereiche der Fels-, Sand- und Salzwüste.
About 12 km from San Pedro de Atacama lies the „Valley of the Moon“, which we were able to take a look at from above when we arrived. In many places it is clear that it is part of the salt cordillera (Cordillera de la Sal). It is completely different from the „Moon Valley“ in Patagonia (which we visited between Christmas and New Year), but no less bizarre. Like the Lagunas Miscanti y Miñiques, Valle de la Luna is one of seven areas in the Atacama Desert that together form the Reserva Nacional Los Flamencos.
On the approach to the valley we cross a dried-up salt stream. A Bischofit road leads through the valley; we drive our camper to the end and back. There are a few parking places along the road, but we can also stop and take photos at many other places. From the Large Dune, where a hiking trail leads, we have great views of some areas of the rock, sand and salt desert.
