… ist ein wüstenhaftes Gebiet im isländischen Hochland zwischen den Gletschern Vatnajökull und Hofsjökull. Aber auch die Hochlandpiste F26 durch dieses Gebiet wird so genannt. Sie ist mit etwa 200 km die längste Piste im isländischen Hochland und verbindet den Nordosten und den Südwesten des Landes. Der Name Sprengisandur kommt daher, dass die Pferde schnell über diese Sander sprengen sollten, um sie rasch hinter sich zu bringen und wieder Gras und Wasser zu finden.
Verglichen mit den anderen Hochlandpisten, die wir bisher gefahren sind (Kaldidalur, Kjölur, zu Askja und Kverkfjöll) bietet die Sprengisandur wenig Abwechslung und wegen ihrer Länge ist die Fahrt noch anstrengender. Wo Wasser nicht sofort versickert, gibt es seltene grüne und bunte Oasen.
… is a deserted area in the icelandic highlands between the glaciers Vatnajökull and Hofsjökull. Also the highland track F26 through this area is called equally. It is with approximately 200 km the longest track in the icelandic highlands and connects the northeast and the southwest of the country. The name Sprengisandur means that the horses should gallop (Iclandic: sprengi) fast over the sands to leave them behind quickly and find grass and water again.
Compared to other highland tracks we have driven so far (Kaldidalur, Kjölur, to Askja and Kverkfjöll) the Sprengisandur offers little diversion and because of its length the ride is even more strenuous. Where water doesn’t drain away immediately there are seldom green and colourfull oases.
